Holidaying with another family is a brilliant way to travel, the kids have instant playmates, and the adults have someone to share a bottle of wine with once the little ones are in bed. However, the wrong house layout can make a group trip feel cramped.
At Dream Land Cottage, we’ve designed our space specifically to solve the “too many people in one room” problem. From our “upside-down” living arrangement to our secure gated garden, here is why our cottage is the ultimate base for a stress-free multi-family escape to Margate.
1. The “Two-Zone” Privacy Layout
Most holiday rentals feel like a squeeze when two families share. Our downstairs bedroom floor is uniquely configured to give everyone their own space:
- The Private Suite: Passing through the door by the bottom of the rainbow stairs leads you to The Snug and the Master Bedroom. This area effectively acts as a private wing. One family can base themselves here, using the King Size bed and the double sofa bed in the Snug, sharing the brand-new ensuite bathroom.
- The Main Wing: The other side of the hallway contains three distinct bedrooms (two doubles – the pink room and the green room – and one twin) and a large family bathroom featuring a classic roll-top bath—perfect for scrubbing the sand off the kids after a day at the beach.
2. Social Upstairs, Sleep Downstairs
By having the kitchen, dining area, and lounge upstairs, we’ve created a dedicated social hub.
- The upstairs lounge has a 55 inch Roku TV, keeping the noise of morning cartoons or late-night movies away from those trying to sleep downstairs.
- No “Living on Top of Each Other”: Because the bedrooms are on the ground floor, they stay cooler in the summer and offer a quiet retreat while the “early birds” are upstairs starting breakfast.
3. Safety & Peace of Mind
We know that for parents, “relaxing” is only possible if the kids are safe.
- Secure & Enclosed: The cottage is tucked behind a locked electric gate, and the garden is fully enclosed by a wall and a secure gate. You can let the kids run around the garden while you prep the BBQ, knowing they are in a safe, private environment.
- Stress-Free Arrival: Our driveway fits three cars comfortably. You can unload the kids, the buggy, and a week’s worth of groceries without ever having to worry about traffic or finding a parking space.
4. The “Emergency” Essentials (Within 5 Minutes)
Forgot the milk? Need a night off from cooking? Everything is on your doorstep:
- The Parade: Just a 5-minute walk away, you’ll find two corner shops for essentials and a variety of takeaways, from pizza and curry to traditional fish and chips.
- The Playground: If the kids still have energy to burn, there is a park and playground just 4 minutes away featuring a climbing rock, swings, and football goals. It’s the perfect spot for a quick run-around before dinner.
- The Pub: whilst not an emergency essential, there is a pub 2 minutes walk away. Perfect for a quick drink before a walk down to the seafront.
Dream Land Cottage Favourite: We love the “Snug” for rainy afternoons. While the adults are upstairs in the main lounge, the kids can claim the Snug as their own private den for reading or board games. We are often asked if we’ll put a TV in the Snug. For now, we’ve kept the beautiful mirror on the wall to maintain the room’s calm, “den-like” feel. We find that with the high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the house, the Snug is the perfect place for kids to settle in with their own tablets or a good book, leaving the “big screen” upstairs for family movie nights!
Ready to book your next family adventure? With four bedrooms and a layout that respects everyone’s privacy, Dream Land Cottage is the perfect fit for your group of 10.
